FAQ

Can I install a solar attic fan myself?

The fan unit is not that complicated. Cut a hole, set the flashing, screw it down, seal the edges. A confident DIY homeowner with roof experience can pull it off.

The reason we do not sell a DIY kit is the seal. A roof penetration done wrong leaks. The leak usually shows up months later when a heavy rain finds the weak spot, and by then the trail back to the install is cold. Asphalt shingle manufacturers also void their warranty on penetrations that were not installed by a licensed pro in some cases.

With our bundled install you get three layers of coverage: the fan manufacturer warranty on the unit, the installer's workmanship warranty on the seal, and a coordinator at Solar Attic Pros who handles any claim for you. You do not get any of that if you do it yourself.

If you still want to DIY, buy a unit from a hardware store, not from us. We do not want to sell something we cannot stand behind.
